Our Family at El Viejito

Tradition like no other

Founded in 1937 by Don Indalecio Nuñez Muro, El Viejito Distillery stands as a testament to tradition, excellence, and innovation in handcrafted tequila. As the first distillery in Atotonilco El Alto, Jalisco. Beyond its historic roots, the distillery embraces progress with a workforce that is over 50% female, including key leadership roles.

Among them is Karina Rojo, a true trailblazer in the industry. With nearly two decades of experience and a master’s degree in technical processes, Karina has spent 15 years at El Viejito refining the craft of tequila-making. Her expertise and leadership not only elevate the spirit of El Bandido Yankee but also represent a new era of diversity and precision—where every bottle reflects both heritage and the future of tequila.

The Meaning Behind the name

BOLD, AUTHENTIC, UNTAMED

Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. Two outlaws, bold and fearless, running from the law but bound by loyalty to each other and the thrill of freedom. In one famous scene, after robbing their first bank in Telluride, Colorado, they moved through Mexico and then to Bolivia, and started robbing banks in Bolivia and after one robbery an oblivious onlooker yells, “El Bandido Yankees!” And just like that, the name was born—an ode to the fearless, the rebellious, and those who break the mold. We took this inspiration and set out to create a tequila as bold as Butch and Sundance, but with a commitment to stay true to the roots of tequila-making—honoring tradition, history, and the authenticity of the Mexican culture from which it came.
